Terrorism in Tajikistan

The Islamic Movement of Uzbekistan (IMU) is up to trouble again.

“A suspected terrorist set off a grenade, killing himself and an officer and heavily injuring two policemen in the Tajik northern city of Isfar, a source at the Tajik Interior Ministry told Itar-Tass on Friday.” (from ITAR-ITASS news agency)

Also- “Republic law enforcement agencies are concerned about the growing activity of religious extremists and terrorists in the northern areas,” Tajik Interior Minister Khumdin Sharipov told a press conference. He said over 40 members of the Hizb-ut-Tahrir Party and more than 20 members of the Islamic Movement of Uzbekistan have been arrested in the country’s north since the beginning of this year. The minister accused them of two explosions in the center of Dushanbe last year and an armed attack on a Tajik border post this June.”

It is about that time of year. I wonder (I do not know for sure) if the growing activity in connected to what is going on in Lebanon and the recent visit of Mahmud Ahmadinejad? I don’t think there is a conspiracy, but the current violence in the Middle East could be angering the IMU and giving them an excuse to cause trouble.

It is interesting to note that the grenade attack occured on the same day that Abdullo Uldoshev, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Tajikistan was in India attending a meeting with the Indian delegation about ways to counter terrorism.

  1. oh goodness, there are extremists everywhere if you look for them, this blog however is solely focused on finding the Arab ones. There has been terror groups from all faiths and religions at some point. Also Mahmoud Ahmadinejad condemns violence if you take a look at his letter to President Bush so how would he be involved with this if he was only having a governmental meeting, so that argument is a farce anyway. Lets see what other things are wrong with this blog post shall we? Ooh have we forgotten the F.A.L.N a Hispanic group of extremists that have opened attacks on the USA before?? hmm…. so if you want to make an accurate record of world terrorism you shouldn’t be so biased in looking for terror groups to talk about, hmm the UDA (a loyalist paramilitary gang in Northern Ireland) oooh that hasn’t been discussed either, what a coincidence. Yet again you are proving that you are blogging about Arab groups due to the stereotypes about Arabs and terrorism. What about the law abiding Arabs which are the vast majority, do you ever speak of them? Waiit, Waiit do you want another example of a Christian terror group in the Middle East, remember as far back as 1982??? during the Lebanese Civil War?? hmm?? The Christian Militia, also known as the Phalangists? ring a bell?? Just because your memory only lasts a few weeks by the sound of this blog? I am also a Christian however, and I am willing to speak freely about the atrocities of terror groups of my faith, in addition to that of the Arab groups. They are wrong but yet there is probably has been more terror groups in other faiths. I would like to ask you to keep an open mind and perhaps read up more before making assumptions about Ahmadinejad causing this by going to a government meeting, when these men were arrested under the Tajik police force which serve their government. As I have mentioned in different parts of this blog, Israeli terror groups and militia terrorised the Arab and British people living in Palestine for years from 1918 to the creation of the Jewish state. We don’t remember Haganah, the Irgun, and the Shern Gang do we? They bombed cafés, were responsible for letter bombs, murdered British soldiers, and raised Arab towns to the ground in some cases. Everyone seems to have forgotten the Crusades, and what the Arabs have had to go through under some corrupt Western powers manipulating situations (Iranian Coup d’Etat of 1953 by the CIA) and ruining their political landscape and exploiting their oil!!! You call the Arabs Islamofacists, you must have also forgotten that the Shern Gang had cooperated with both the Italian and German governments under Facism even when the Holocaust was happening. And yet we call the Arabs Islamofacists, are you joking? or are you even sane?? You need to read up on your history, and you need to feel for Arabs just as much as Christians and Jews, I acknowledge that extremism in Islam is bad, but Muslims are good people and they need to gain control over misguided Muslims. This has happened with Christianity and Judaism in the past (i.e Zionist terrorists were terrorising the people of Israel in the Roman Empire) and it was just as bad or worse in some cases. And I feel that you are leaning towards the Anti-Arab side a bit too much?

Please do us a favour and get some common sense,
    Gareth

  2. LET ME MAKE THIS CLEAR:

If you look carefully you will see that I also include South America and East Asia. I will include more of East Asia in time since that is my specialty and terrorism in Central Asia affects me personally, (bet you didn’t know that did you!)

Of course there are Christian and Jewish terrorists, but they don’t rule the governments of nations at this time, though they have in times past. That is one of the reasons why so many immigrated to the USA; to escape religious persecution.

You say Iran wants peace, but so far I haven’t seen that. I have really tried but I don’t think Ahmadinejad wants peace.

I am against terrorist organizations who wish to take away basic rights and freedoms of individuals and like Hayek, believe that Socialism and Communism eventually lead to Fascism. I love my right to make fun of my president and say what I want. I like that I don’t HAVE to wear Hijab. I like that I can choose whether or not to have a career. I hate those groups using terror or whatever tactic they choose to try to fight to take away my freedoms.

I am pro-Arab and pro-Muslim. I am against those who use Islam and their ethnicity as a way to push their evil political agenda. I don’t support Christians here in America who want the same thing. The Evangelical Right reject me and during school I protested their attempts to force students to pray only to Jesus and the taking away of evolution from text books.

I want freedom for Muslims. The Islamic world was once greater than the Christian West. While Christians were slaughtering Jews, the empires of the East accepted them. Like I said, this fight for me is personal and affects my family. I despise Ahmadinejad, so close to affecting relatives overseas, and I think people do not take him seriously enough. I wish the dictators of Central Asia would step down and follow Kyrghyzstan and the Ukraine’s examples. I despise HAMAS and other groups who are hurting rather than helping the Palestinian people. I was in South Korea during one of the worst famines in North Korea and saw actual footage of North Koreans dying and starving. I was shocked that none of this footage was shown in the USA. I am aware of pro-Democracy activists in all of those countries and support them. I also know that the international media is VERY biased against the USA, even lying about the US.

I think you need to get some common sense and ask people from the countries themselves rather than the media their opinions and realize not everyone agrees with BBC or Pravda. I think you also need to realize that some Americans have extensive connections overseas and do not rely solely on Fox News or CNN.

  3. Firstly, lets get this clear!
I have a few questions for you! What International TV stations are biased towards you? I could think only of a couple of Islamic TV stations (Al Jazeera wouldn’t be one of them, as they are always v.neutral in their coverage). CNN, Fox News and Sky News (Sky is owned by Rupert Murdoch) would be very pro United States and pro Israeli.

Secondly “terrorism in Central Asia affects me”, terrorism affects everyone but it hits the people that are there the hardest. And while we are on the topic of terrorist organisations, you say you are against terrorists who take away rights and freedoms. Are you against governments who do so? Which brings me back to Israel and Palestine! Do you renounce any illegal force that Israel is using in the Gaza Strip with their F-16 bombers? Do you renounce the removal of Palestinians rights to move between borders? They currently arent allowed to leave or enter the Gaza Strip or the West Bank. Would you agree that is reducing the rights of the Palestinians, and that the Israelis clearly have more rights than them at the minute in this horrible time? And finally on this point, I am totally against the Arab terror groups but the reaction that the international community is giving them, by the murder of many more innocent civilians than terrorists could ever take? I renounce all violence by Arab groups but the world must be committed to stopping the harsh harsh retaliations before we can even sit down at a negosiation table would you agree? The International Community is hurting Palestinians more than Hamas at the minute, Israel can hurt the Palestinians millions of times more than Hamas ever could. The European Unions cessation of donations has turned Palestine into a world of poverty. Hama’s leader says it is willing to talk with Israel, but Israel constantly turn away from it.

Thirdly as for the BBC, it was proven as one of the most biased towards Americans and Israelis in Europe by recent studies. The BBC however in my opinion would be the most neutral of the news networks in the world.

Finally, in relation to Ahmadinejad and peace, I have watched several videos of him recently and see him as a decent leader to his people. You should read his letter to George Bush it explains many of his motives in relation to nuclear policy. Ahmadinejad genuinely wants the best for his people and will not risk it by creating nuclear weapons and ultimately entering into a war with the USA. In terms to his “wiping Israel of the map” quote, it was a bit opinionated i grant you but it was in terms of the political landscape he was talking about, not in the use of violence. He strives for the rights of Palestinians being persecuted by Israelis.

and a suggestion of a blog to read: this is an Irish persons blog, he is on the ground in Gaza and it is a v.shocking read. He works with an NGO called Trocaire. http://eoinmurray.blogspot.com/
